HONG KONG ART WEEK OUTFIT GUIDE

Art Week in Hong Kong is just around the corner. While major galleries and auction houses are prepping for their show at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, we’re getting ready to dress the part to blend right in. To help you fit right in, we’ve prepared some art-inspired outfits for you to wear different events like Art Basel or Art Central.

Look 1: Henri Matisse

Our first look is inspired by the revolutionary French artist, Henri Matisse, who was known for his bold use of vivid colors. Matisse was known for bringing about a new style of painting called Fauvism in the first decade of the 20th century. His paintings actually inspired Yves Saint Laurent’s clothing in the early 1980s. Channel Matisse’s love for color balance by showing up to HKCEC in a colorful outfit - but make sure that you’re wearing complementary colours!

Look 2: Gustav Klimt

The next look is inspired by Gustav Klimt, the Austrian symbolist painter who was also the co-founder and first president of the Vienna Secession. Manty of his paintings, such as Fulfilment (1905), has inspired fashion designers such as Aquilano Rimoldi, L’Wren Scott, and Christian Dior. Alexander McQueen even designed a black flowy dress with mosaic patterns and hinds of bronze and gold tones for his spring/summer resort collection in 2013.

Look 3: Claude Monet

Our last outfit is a homage to another French artist, Claude Monet, who is the founder of Impressionism. Monet is known for his vibrant, yet soft, use of flowers to supplement his landscapes. His paintings are always so full of life and are distinct with his use of innovative brushwork. Christian Dior’s iconic 1949 Miss Dior gown, carefully embroidered with soft flower petals in different shades of violet, fuchsia and beige, references Monet’s landscapes.
