Overaccessorized Handbags Are The New IT Bags!

by HULA Marketing on Jan 11, 2024

Forget about the "It" bag- now it's all about the personalized bag! Whether you're scrolling through Instagram reels or strolling down the streets, you'll spot more people jazzing up their beloved bags with a fabulous array of keychains, charms, ribbons, and tags. It seems like we're witnessing a comeback of maximalism after a year of embracing 'Quiet Luxury'!

But what's really cool about this trend is that Jane Birkin is taking credit for it! This iconic lady, who helped design the famous Birkin bag back in 1983, had a knack for making her bag truly her own. She'd throw on colorful cords, keychains, jewelry, and even a bite mark or two from her cat. Now that her photos are everywhere on the internet, everyone is obsessed with adding a playful twist to their bags.

This phenomenon is a “representative of the ongoing desire of the collective to be recognized for individuality.” saids Jessica Richards, a trend forecaster.  While adding personal touches to clothing has been a practice for centuries, particularly during periods of flourishing subcultures like punk in the '70s, the current wave feels somewhat distinct. She also highlights the prevalence of "cute culture" in these adornments, which pays homage to nostalgic trends and embraces an optimistic and feel-good spirit.
