YUNOTME at HULA's Central Pop-Up
by HULA on Oct 29, 2020
YUNOTME, an artisanal home-grown headpiece brand created by Gloria Yu was presented at our latest Central Pop-Up space. Born from Yu's senior collection at Parsons in 2014, it is a diverse line of creatively created headbands that celebrates feminine charm and empowerment. Paused from 2017, refreshed and relaunched in 2020 with a more sustainable and environmentally friendly angle, YUNOTME is quickly becoming one of the hottest up-and-coming designer brands in Hong Kong.

Every piece is artfully crafted by a team of female craftswomen in Hong Kong on a pre-order basis to minimise textile waste. There are mainly two types of headbands – "ready-to-ship" styles of limited stock because they are made from small amounts of deadstock materials -- many of which are sourced from various high-end designer brands, and "pre-order" styles, which the team will make only after an order has been placed. Emerging as a brand that takes after the B-2-C (business to customer) model, the team is able to directly connect with their audience, responding to shoppers' needs and demands first hand. YUNOTME's "pre-order" styles are open for ordering once every week, from Wednesday to Saturday to eliminate as much textile waste as possible. My designs are often inspired by the strength and voice of female heroines in literature and the society. Meanwhile, the production of the pieces is made possible by a team of mostly female craftswomen in my home town of Hong Kong.
