Texture is one of the subtlest ways to experiment with your look. A fully monochrome outfit can suddenly appear full of depth with careful consideration of thoughtful texture. There are a plethora of rich textures that are available - all of which add richness to any look. Here are some HULA inspiration outfits for the top textural trends to watch this winter:
Lots of Leather
[caption id="attachment_8931" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Lanvin 2. Helmut Lang 3. Hermès 4. Vika Gazinskaya 5. Céline 6. John Hardy[/caption]
Leather is a staple in every person's closet. Whether it is a motorcycle jacket, a pair of boots or (in this case) a great pair of wide-leg cropped pants - your outfit is guaranteed to come off as timeless and effortless. Leather is also great because you can pair as many leather accessories with a leather garment and it will not seem like too much. This simple look is edgy, androgynous and ultimately cool for the upcoming transitional season.
Chunky Knits
[caption id="attachment_8933" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Chanel 2. Chanel 3. Chanel 4. Hermès 5. Alaïa 6. Céline 7. Céline[/caption]
Typically when we think about chunky knits, it is a simple sweater with a pair of jeans. Try elevating this concept with a knit jacket over more sophisticated items. Match accessories in terms of tone and you will have a winter-ready knit look that exceeds the normal expectations.
1970s Sequins
[caption id="attachment_8937" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Hermès 2. Christian Dior 3. Rixo 4. Fendi 5. 3.1. Phillip Lim 6. Saint Laurent[/caption]
This look lets sequins go beyond the typical blazer or skirt option. A fully sequinned, loose-fit, midi-length dress is an unexpected twist to this staple textile. Matching accessories to the tonality of the garment keeps the look playful while not being too matchy-matchy.
Lots of Lace
[caption id="attachment_8938" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Sergio Rossi 2. AG Jeans 3. Christian Dior 4. Burberry 5. BA&SH 6. Alaïa[/caption]
This look is an ideal option for running around town or when you need to look a bit more professional than jeans and a t-shirt. Mixing scale of lace is a great way to make multiple laces go together. The larger scale of the lace top works seamlessly with this iconic Burberry lace trench-coat since the trench has a smaller scale lace. The bag also evokes the energy of lace through the laser-cut textile as the rest of the outfit is simple in order for these lace pieces to sing.
Oversized Ruffles
[caption id="attachment_8936" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Hermès 2. Alice + Olivia 3. Hermès 4. Céline 5. Christian Dior 6. Hermès[/caption]
Ruffles are often found on hems or bodices of tops. A way to make ruffles more modern is to find pieces with exaggerated, sculptural ruffles. This Alice + Olivia skirt is the perfect example of this as it has volume, draping and texture. A neutral top and modest, yet contemporary shoe complete this over-the-top skirt. Accessories are serious, while also understated. The Christian Dior bag has a trendy energy that contradicts the neutrality of the outfit's colour palette and conservative silhouette.
Delicate Beading
[caption id="attachment_8935" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Georg Jenson 2. Bottega Veneta 3. Needle & Thread 4. Gucci 5. Christian Louboutin 6. Louis Vuitton[/caption]
Introducing beading to an evening look can elevate even the simplest little black dress. This bomber is beaded with delicate embellishments that make it look like a piece of jewellery itself. The micro-beads on the Gucci handbag also give off this feel. It is a refined way to make a this sculptural and serious dress more youthful and playful while remaining elegant.
Fur Accents
[caption id="attachment_8932" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Prada 2. Altuzarra 3. Guy Laroche 4. Sacai Luck 5. Prada 6. Chanel[/caption]
Whether you prefer real or faux, fur is a textural dream. It is soft, warm and visually stunning. A hint of fur on any coat can elevate the simplest of designs. The Sacai Luck sweater also nods to the comfortable and cozy energy of the winter, while the overly sophisticated accessories balance the casualness of the garments.
