Scandinavian Street Style: Copenhagen Fashion Week 2021

Kicking Fashion month off successfully, Copenhagen Fashion Week has debuted the upcoming trends this coming season. From Scandi-chic styles to neon colour-blocking, Scandinavian brands Ganni, Stine Goya and Munthe blew us away with their S/S 22 pieces. Here we break down our favourite trends and pieces you can recreate your outfits with!

Orange is the New Black

It seems orange is the new black. Seen on the runway and the streets of Copenhagen, a vibrant shade of orange has taken form via every article of clothing this season. Besides orange, other prints and neons have made an appearance. For example, the colour fuchsia and green floral patterns have been featured on the runway and fashion bloggers. Here's our guide for mixing and matching patterns and colours. Spotted Streetwear: Stylist and show committee member Janka Polliani was spotted matching a blue polka dot shoulder-padded blouse with a vibrant red fringed skirt and a pair of green heels and matching clutch on the streets of Copenhagen. She was then later spotted in the same skirt with a different top, this time it was a vibrant fuschia shoulder padded blouse and it was paired with bubblegum pink handle bag and heels. From Runway: This shade of orange has featured in many shows this season on the Copenhagen Fashion Week runway. Brands like Ganni paired their bright orange long sleeve halter dress with baby pink clogs, where Saks Potts showed a matching crocodile print skirt and blazer orange set paired with a white mini top, grey tights and neutral strappy heels. Ganni, alongside other brands, frequently used prints and bold colours in their S/S 22 collection.

Funky Business

It looks like business-formal-esque clothing is going to be a recurring trend during the S/S 22 Fashion month. From matching sets to individual pieces being styled on its own, suits are taking the fashion world by storm. Other than (pant)suits, collars of different shapes and sizes have been spotted all over Copenhagen Fashion Week oftentimes in the shape of matching sets and coats. Spotted Streetwear: The streets of Copenhagen were populated by people in suits. Everyone styled it differently: Some were in a pastel oversized two piece suit matched with a different coloured bralette top and bright coloured heels, while others paired work pants with an oversized jacket. From Runway: Norwegian brand, Holzweiler, designed a monochrome sleek light cream pantsuit where Copenhagen-based brand Munthe challenged the traditional ‘business formal’ attire and altered it by creating a two piece suit with a loungewear attire incentive.

XXXL Outerwear

Different types of outerwear have been spotted during CPHFW, a variety from trench coats to leather jackets to oversized blazers made of different materials like crocodile print on sheepskin and nylon.They’re often seen paired with loose work pants or denim pants with formal shoes on the streets of Copenhagen. Spotted Streetwear: The Summer season is coming to an end, the chilly weather is coming back, the people of Copenhagen have been spotted wearing different designs regarding outerwear. From cheetah print trench coats to oversized black and white striped rain jackets. From Runway: Oversized trench coats and blazers seem to be well liked among Danish designers, each brand giving us something new. Copenhagen brand, Helmstedt, designed a floral quilted pastel blue and yellow long coat with ruffled shoulder pads while others stuck to classic cuts and designs.

Comfort in Copenhagen

Comfortable clothing is beginning to become more recognised as a part of the everyday wardrobe. From comfortable pieces like casual shorts, flowy skirts to matching loungewear and knitwear. This trend has taken form in mixed pastels and neutral tones all over Copenhagen. Spotted Streetwear: An attendee of CPHFW was photographed wearing a brown V-neck button down cardigan paired with matching brown ribbed trousers with a classic black shoulder bag and flat sandals. On a more pastel note, another attendee was seen wearing a loose pastel yellow dress with a halter neck tie paired with a pair of sunglasses and flats. From Runway: Comfort clothing on the runway took forms of pajama sets to loose shorts. Stine Goya designed a pajama set made of a patterned fabric with orange drawings and yellow and brown undertones, whereas the Baum und Pferdgarten designed a pair of silver reflective sports shorts.
