From Studio 54 to American Hustle: Its The 1970's

The 1970s was an exceptional mix of glamour, bohemianism and workwear. The decade can be divided into three parts: early, middle and late. The late 1960s melted into the early 1970s through peasant blouses, flare pants and hippie aesthetics. The middle 1970s brought forth blazers and midi skirts with small neck scarves and large sunglasses - all in earthen tones (reminiscent of the 1940s). The late 1970s evolved into brighter colour palettes and everyone's favourite: disco fever. These changes of style throughout the decade illustrate how society morphed through the complex era.

Cropped Tops and Flares Youth culture was still at an all-time high as small cropped tops and bell-bottom pants continued to be popular. This emulated a more refined version of the style in the 1960s.

Caftans Hippie aesthetics continued, but also evolved into a more resort-wear approach. Caftans of designers like Emilio Pucci became popular amongst stars like Cher and Diana Ross.

Preppy Mini's Amongst the rock 'n' roll vibes, there was still a touch of sweet and innocence - the ultimate 'girl next door' look. Preppy tight-fit shirts, a-line mini skirts and neck ties, worn with chunky heeled shoes and a big smile.

Studio 54 Anything went at Studio 54. Any celebrity could be found at the infamous club where wild outfits were sported through the late 1970s and early 1980s. Seriously, you could wear anything - even ride in on a white horse.   [caption id="attachment_11272" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Grace Jones[/caption]

Business as Usual Business-wear became increasingly popular in womenswear through the 1970s. Pin-striped and plaid suits worked well with knit textiles and soft blouses. These were often paired with classic bags and chunky heeled loafers.
