6 Handbag Trends to Keep an Eye Out for in 2020

by HULA on Aug 07, 2020

Focusing handbags, for now, we've come up with 6 bag trends for 2020 after going through the latest runways from Marine Serre to Bottega Veneta. From utilitarian bags to micro bags,  to XXL bags, this year's showcase has something for everyone -- the Bottega Veneta Airpods Holder for the tech-savvy or minimalist, or the Balenciaga XXL bag for all the newborn mothers. We have done the hard work and dug through our massive collection of handbags we have collected recently and throughout the years to bring you the freshest trends from our walk-in wardrobe in Wong Chuk Hang! Scroll down to see what we mean...

The Small Utilitarian

Small or even micro bags continue to dominate the stage of fashion in SS2020, though things have taken a slight utilitarian turn. Think multi-pocket bum bags and tiny tiny key or AirPods holder. Put them around your waist, across your shoulder or link them to your jeans!

Leather Dumpling

Leather handbags showed up repeatedly on the runways of SS2020. One thing (amongst many other) that is impactful about these bags is their textures. Anyone else think these leather bags with gathers resemble Chinese dumplings?

Summer Brights

Adding on top of its subdued colour palette, Bottega is once again making waves with its new release of colourful and summer-delicious bags since Daniel Lee's reign. SS2020 saw a lot of bright and mood-lifting coloured bags. Brighten up your outfits, summer through winter, with an electric pop of colour to instantly lift your mood!

Bucket List

Timeless, practical and the easiest access to all your belongs. Worry not, our picks of bucket bags also provide added security, so they're not easily accessed to ALL, just you. Our winning bucket bag is definitely the Celine lambskin Big Small Bag (yes, it's really called that. Don't ask us why.), considering Phoebe Philo's team and herself developed that bag just before she left the fashion house for good

Fringe Frenzy

Swishy fringe was also a key element to the runway shows of 2020. We're not just talking about normal 3-inch-long fringe, we meant the big, show stopper, floor-length fringe! Stand out from the crowd with these frenzy inducing bags this summer.

The XXL

On the other end of the bag size spectrum, the XXL bags were a big highlight this year. Maybe they were created to take a jab at all the micro bags we've been seeing for the past year, who knows?! Either way, we're here for the practicality of a carryall. Carry a laptop or your twins in these extra-large bags because you might as well!
