2023 Trend Prediction - Big Skirt Energy

by Wong Chuk Hang HULA on Jan 27, 2023

Get ready to rock skirts all year round, because they are here to stay. Micro mini skirts were all the rage and Miu Miu SS22 collection has most certainly put a spotlight on the trend. While many other designers adore and adapt the skirts element to their collections, this year we are seeing skirts evolving in more than one direction.

Yes, maxis are coming back as an antithesis to micro-minis and they are getting bigger and longer. Take inspirations from the runways as to how to wear them this season and beyond. It's time to get on board!

If you are new to the big dress energy, the key tip of styling is to keep the outfit's proportion in mind. Style them with a plain, fitted tank or tee can always leave the extra-long skirt to be the star of the show. If you find your maxis looking too bland, pair it with a vibrant colour or a printed top to spice things up or wear a skinny belt for that extra touch of nostalgia Y2K look. A pair of sandals or loafers with white socks can also elevate the effortless youthful look!

It’s no wonder that cargo skirts are back like they never left - every fashion girlies’ wardrobe staple since the 1990s as an offshoot from cargo pants. Cool and effortless street style look, yet practical with a million patch pockets to hold all your little essentials. Simply match with a crop top, oversized tee, or channel that athletically-chic energy with a sporty sweatshirt or hoodie with a cool pair of shades and sneakers- versatile enough for weekend brunches or a trip to the grocery store.

The past year has been filled with denim-on-denim moments. There is no doubt the appetite for all things denim is still at an all time high. Stefan Cook, Burberry and Theophilio are some of the top brands that reinvented rigid denim maxis for spring/summer 2023. There are many playful styling elements seen on the runways too, including lots of glitzy touches and sparkling accessories that echoes nightlife and party festivals.
