HULA's Best Dressed Oscars 2020

This year's Oscars red carpet did not disappoint! From fairy-tale ballgowns to body-hugging dresses to over-sized Chanel covered sets (thank you Billie!) this red carpet ran the gamut for variety this year. Here are HULA's picks for best dressed:   Fairytale Fantasy  [caption id="attachment_9236" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Brie Larson in Céline 2. Sandra Oh in Elie Saab 3. Regina King in Versace[/caption] These feminine fantasies got us all excited for spring with the blush tones and (in Sandra Oh's case) floral embellishments. This category is particularly interesting as the blush tones were worn in ballgown as well as sleek and sexy formats. Our picks above are three people going to very different parties, but we are here for it!   New Romantic [caption id="attachment_9238" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Margot Robbie in Chanel 2. Rooney Mara in Alexander McQueen 3. Natalie Portman in Dior Haute Couture[/caption] There was a lot of black on the red carpet this year. The dark, vampy aesthetic made these starlets look romantic, royal and sexy. Margot Robbie continues to look like the movie star she is in Chanel, while Natalie Portman wears an iconic Dior number with female director's names on it. These looks are serious and you can't help but take them seriously.    Straight-Up Goddesses [caption id="attachment_9241" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1 .Kaitlyn Dever in Louis Vuitton  2. Renée Zellweger in Armani 3. Scarlett Johansson in Oscar de la Renta[/caption] Ah yes. The standard goddess gowns that we all know and love. Scarlett Johansson wears a slightly more elevated version of a silhouette that we have grown to expect from her - and she is stunning. Renée Zellweger sported a sleek Armani gown that made her look fresh and modern while Kaitlyn Dever gives off an Old Hollywood energy with her Louis Vuitton gown.   Clean and Bright [caption id="attachment_9235" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Beanie Feldstein in Miu Miu 2. Cynthia Erivo 3. Sandy Powell[/caption] Bright white looks were also a fresh break amongst the sea of dark gowns. Sandy Powell wore an iconic suit that was signed by almost all the nominees (to be later auctioned for charity). Beanie Feldstein stunned in a timeless Miu Miu gown. Altogether, white structured garments made true statements this Oscars.   Structured and Simple [caption id="attachment_9237" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Charlize Theron in Dior 2. Olivia Coleman in Stella McCartney 3. Penelope Cruz in Chanel[/caption] When one wears dark colours on the red carpet, it has to have something that makes it stand out of the crowd. These sculptural gowns do just that. Charlize Theron wore this jaw-dropping Dior gown that oozes sex appeal without revealing that much skin. Olivia Coleman also looks iconic with slight arm cut-outs and a flawless train.     Blinged Out [caption id="attachment_9239" align="alignnone" width="960"] 1. Janelle Monae in Ralph Lauren 2. Zazie Beetz in Thom Browne 3. Billie Eilish in Chanel[/caption] These looks are some of the most exciting of the evening. Billie Eilish did not stray from her oversized, over-logoed look. Her take on Chanel breathes a youthful air into the brand. Janelle Monae, however, did stray from her typical take on a men's suit, as this year she opted for a cyber-chic Ralph Lauren hooded gown. Zazie Beetz brought some variety to the carpet in a midi-length dress. Overall, the sparkles were appreciated!
