Events We're Going During This Pride Month (& Our Fabulous Ensembles)
by HULA on Jun 08, 2021
We lived vicariously and very fashionably via our fave queer Simpsons characters last week, and we can't wait to channel their flamboyant energy into real life events for this Pride Month. The traditional annual Pride Parade only takes place in November each year (moved online this year), so we have looked high and low and come up with three events perfect for this June's pride celebration. Keep scrolling to see what Hong Kong has to offer for this month and what we would wear to these LGBT-friendly events!
Wild 80's Pride Festival @ The Wild Lot 26 June
A collaborative concept space for the city's creatives, The Wild Lot is a 'gallery', 'shop', 'event space' as well as 'home'. A marriage between commerce and creativity, The Wild Lot has packed a full day of pride events into their Wild 80's Pride Festival -- from art exhibition, workshop, live music performances, hot food, booze AND aerobic classes led by one of THE drag queens in Hong Kong -- Madame Mincemeat. An LGBT+ safe space for all, it's definitely one of the unmissable events in Hong Kong during the Month of Pride. Order your tickets today for your early bird discount! What to wear: They'll be awarding the best-dressed on the day, go in your best 80s outfit and show them how it's done! The 80's is full of fun and exaggerated shapes and colours: go for our bat-sleeved Scanlan & Theodore blue top, a fringe skirt by Dries Van Noten and a pair of silver Chanel platforms.Make Music Hong Kong! @ West Kowloon Cultural District 13 June
A free event open to both amateurs and professional performers, Make Music 2021 is featuring 20+ local bands this June. Although it's free entry, you do have to be quick and RSVP your visit on EventBrite. There are four restaurants in West Kowloon Cultural District that offer dine-in and takeaway services. Our top tip? Try FAM, a contemporary Chinese restaurant on the ground level, which is also one of the best spots in the area to enjoy the panoramic cross-harbour views of Hong Kong's skyline. Bond over music, food and drinks this June. Make this festival your very own LGBT+ event with your buddies! What to wear: Match the event's poster and go pastel: Our La Perla pink sheer sequinned corset top, the most girly lilac Chanel skirt and a silver retro Chanel shoulder bag.Enter The Drag-On with Madame Mincemeat and XXXotica @ BaseHall 12 June
Madame Minemeant and XXXotica, two of Hong Kong's most celebrated drag queens, will be hosting a seriously rowdy and raunch drag brunches at newest and the most stylish multi-cuisine food court in Hong Kong to date -- BaseHall. According to BaseHall, "guests should expect to be read for filth in true drag queen fashion", "no tea no shade, it will be an afternoon of games, kiki-ing and lip-syncing galore." Still not convinced? All the of venue's vendors will come together to create a one-day-only snack platter... What to wear: It is only appropriate to wear some of your most exaggerated outfits to this event. Our picks are an Anais Jourden bell sleeves top, a fun patterend Emilio Pucci quilted skirt and 5-inch platform heels from Aquazzura (so you could match with Madame Minemeant and XXXotica!)
