American born Jaime Perlman is a magazine veteran, starting her career at US Harper’s Bazaar and US Vogue before coming to London to work for British Vogue – first as Art Director and later as Creative Director, where she worked for almost a decade. Whilst she was still at British Vogue, she launched ‘TEST’ – a platform for emerging photographers, film makers and designers. Jaime took the leap last year to launch Jaime Perlman Studio, creating bespoke campaigns and content for fashion and beauty brands. We visit Jaime at her home in East London, where she lives with her cat ‘Wolf’.

What are you currently working on?

I am working on a coffee table book which is a collaboration between fashion designer Molly Goddard and photographer Tim Walker

What did you learn most whilst you were at Vogue?

I learned that magazines are a collaborative, building and managing teams of people that you trust and respect is paramount.

How has setting up your own agency changed your outlook?

I’m enjoying working with a diverse group of clients and having to switch gears creatively to adjust to the needs of different brands.

What was your most memorable shoot?

My most memorable shoot experience was going to Glastonbury for the first time with the legendary photographer Corrine Day for a fashion shoot for Vogue. I had just moved to London and never been to a music festival before. It rained so hard the crew got washed out of our teepees and we all had to squish into a tiny caravan to sleep, while dragging heavy photo equipment and clothes through fields of mud in the day. It was exhausting but incredible.

How has setting up your own agency changed your outlook?

Who is the artist that inspires you most?

I have always been inspired by photographer Lee Miller and for her appetite for adventure. She constantly reinvented herself and her work, and never ceased to surprise and inspire.

Who are your favourite fashion brands?

I love BalenciagaLoewe and Christopher Kane and Natasha Ramsey’s debut at Chloé this season

What is your ‘go-to’ look?

I’m usually in a uniform of black leather and high heels.

If you could resurrect a magazine what would it be?

Bring back Sassy or Vibe magazine from the 90’s

Which female icon would you stalk, if you could?

I would probably jump in a time machine and stalk Fay Dunaway in the 60s. She had the look!
