It is that time of the year again – for a lot of girls, graduation night is the first time they’ll have stepped out in a black-tie gown. The right dress can help one look good and feel confident, something we all desperately need after months long social distancing restrictions and remote Zoom classes. We have looked at some of the most iconic Pop stars and A-listers for some inspiration for this year’s graduation outfits. From timeless classics for the “less-is-more” crowd, to loud bursts of colours for the ones that just want to have fun, we have a bit of something for everything.
Bright coloured gowns are 100% the opposite of boring Zoom classes and what better way to end high school with colours of the rainbow? We drew inspiration from Megan Thee Stallion’s full-of-life bright orange dress, H.E.R. in head-to-toe periwinkle jumpsuit-gown hybrid and Zendaya’s lemony two-piece. How does one wear such bright colours you might ask. We say with confidence!

Classics such as black dresses with a deep V and leg split, and heart-shaped neckline with a long train can never go out of style. Our inspirations are Vanessa Kirby’s simple yet elegant pink full length gown and Rosie Huntington-Whitney timeless figure-complimenting long black dress. Would rather a simple-shaped dress, but don’t want to look too plain? Opt for a dress with some nice texture (i.e. something nicely draped), made with interesting fabric (i.e. satin/silk) or delicate embroidery.

2021 Flower Child
Welcome the beginning of Summer with these bountiful blooms. One of the easiest dresses to pull off, floral dresses are perfect for the romantics (perhaps one can even wear their floral graduation dress to a picnic party)! For our flower children (literally), we’ve drawn inspiration from Taylor Swift’s famous Oscar De Le Renta flower dress, Margot Robbie’s metallic floral dress and Karolina Kurkova’s Cinderella-like organza floral dress.

These sleeves mark the start of a boss woman. Keep everything else plain, and GO BIG on the sleeves. Angela Bassett and Regina King are both in the most jaw-dropping structural, extra large balloon sleeves and padded shoulders dress respectively.
