Ever wondered how fashion buyers determine what pieces to acquire for a store? What is the difference between buying for a retailer and for a brand’s regional store? What is it really like at Fashion Week and where do they see the future of fashion? These are just some of the questions we will explore at the first of our regular HULA Happenings next week with a unique panel discussion ‘How Fashion Buyers Decide What Goes In Your Wardrobe’, amongst three established luxury fashion buyers;

Magali Ginsburg – Senior Vice President Fashion at DFS Group Limited

Magali Ginsburg has had a long career in fashion buying working at different renowned fashion entities, including Lane Crawford (Hong Kong) Printemps (Paris) and the YOOX Group. 10 years ago at Lane Crawford she picked up emerging brands such as SacaiToga and Haider Ackermann.  She has recently re-located to Hong Kong to fulfil a new role as Senior VP of Fashion at DFS Group Limited. As a buyer she believes everyone should have skills in business strategy, product knowledge (and being a mother of two) the ability to multitask and work around the clock.

Lindsay Edwards – Ready to Wear Merchandise Manager at Miu Miu

Lindsay Edwards is a Fashion Buyer at Miu Miu (Hong Kong) but started out her career working for Comme des Garcons (Paris), which later lead to her taking on buying roles at Dover St Market (London), Pedder Group and Joyce Boutique (Hong Kong). Studying Classical Literature at university paved the path for her passion for costume, history and story-telling, which later inspired her eclectic personal style. We asked her why she loves working for Miu Miu – It’s the excitement and anticipation I feel just before I watch the Miu Miu show each season. Miuccia’s aesthetics change so radically each time so I’m always wondering, “whatever will she do next?”

Tawny Leung – Buying Manager at Lane Crawford

Tawny Leung had a clear vision she wanted to enter the fashion business after graduating from NYU. Having interned in the buying departments at both Bergdorf Goodman and De Beers while at university, her first gig when she returned back to Hong Kong was at Lanvin as Merchandise Coordinator. She moved to Lane Crawford eight years ago and is currently the Buying Manager for Womenswear. Tawny’s motto for work is, ‘Stay true to your passion, focus on the goal – and go for it!’
