The Best Outfits for Arts Month

by HULA , March 22, 2019

Here comes the most artistic month of the year in Hong Kong! With world-class artists and galleries are descending into town, and Art Basel taking up most of next week, expect to so see the best of what human creativity has to offer in shows, exhibitions, symposiums and parties. What better excuse to dress up like a walking piece of art? Here are some of our favourite style ideas to try out next week.

Go for colour, and we mean the more the merrier. Go for dresses or outerwear that contain all spectrums of the rainbow, this week is not one meant for outfits that blend in, just for colours that blend well.

Add a bit of shine to your look by adding some metallic touches — from a full outfit to accents here and there. How about an Alber Elbaz era Lanvin wrap dress, or a Marni coat with gold embellishment?

How about have your outfit look like the canvas of a masterpiece? Try prints that have spray paint and colourful print manipulation perfect. You might just blend right into the gallery wall!

Borrow a look from the streets and the night and put on some leather. A leather jacket could complete a punk inspired look, but could also give a tough edge to an otherwise sweet or elegant look, like a cami dress or elegant midi number. A pair of leather pants could make an otherwise casual look instantly polished.

Become a walking sculpture by putting on tops and dresses with a bit of sculpture and shape. Take inspiration from crafts such as origami and wrap yourself in pleats and folds. Too much? Try accessorising a minimal look with sculptural accessories.

Flowers have been oft seen motifs throughout the history of art, why shouldn’t be in your wardrobe options? The best thing is, interpretations could be varied, from sculptural fabric flowers on a top to bold colourful floral prints on a kimono inspired playsuit to subtle black and white digital renderings on a print.
