It’s no surprise that majority of people in Hong Kong love to indulge in good food, rather than cooking at home. As one of the densest cities in the world, eating out has become a favourite past time for many inhabitants, thanks to tiny kitchens in apartments and convenient locations.

At HULA we definitely like to eat, and here is a look at the NoHo area in Central/Sheung Wan, which is home to independent cafes, boutiques, and restaurant.

Ronin is the sister restaurant of the highly successful and popular modern izakaya, Yardbird, which specialises in yakitori dishes. Founded by chef Matt Abergel and Lindsay Jang, this Japanese dining bar focuses on fish, seafood, and Japanese spirits –  they have the best selection of exclusive Japanese whisky and sake selection in Hong Kong.

Just a few meters from Ronin, on Hollywood Road, is one of the first modern vegetarian restaurants in Hong Kong, Grassroots Pantry. Founded by chef Peggy Chan, she sources unprocessed, sustainable, and organic ingredients for her deliciously healthy cuisine.

Few blocks down from Grassroots Pantry is PMQ, the old Police Married Quarters, a creative hub that consists of fashion boutiques, craft shops, lifestyle stores, and restaurants. Aberdeen Street Social is a landmark restaurant in PMQ, a collaboration between Michelin-star chef Jason Atherton and Yenn Wong, founder of JIA Group. Serving modern British cuisine, bar bites, delicious desserts and great cocktails, this spot is perfect for brunch or dinner.

On the other side of PMQ is SOHOFAMA, a collaboration between local lifestyle brand G.O.D. and Locofama, a health conscious eatery serving up delicious organic bites and dishes. SOHOFAMA brings together urban faming and comfort Chinese cuisine, raising awareness for healthy living through good, chemical-free food. Chef Shing ensures there are absolutely no MSG or chicken powder, instead utilising freshly grown herbs for taste and slow cooked chicken broth to fully enhance flavours.
