2019 Copenhagen Fashion Summit Roundup

Top global brands participated in the 10th anniversary of the  Copenhagen Fashion Summit last week to address the social, environmental, and ethical issues facing the fashion industry’s global supply chain, including climate change, energy efficiency, the circular economy, labour conditions, and overconsumption. The event attracted 1300 guests, and 78 speakers presented on topics from executive leadership to policy and investment strategies.

In partnership with a group of strategic partners, including industry leaders Kering, H&M, Target, BESTSELLER, Li & Fung and Sustainable Apparel Coalition, the Global Fashion Agenda, organizer of the Summit, spearheads the fashion industry’s journey towards a more sustainable future.

News broke of Stella McCartney’s collaboration with Google: a data analysis tool that will quantify the environmental impact of cotton and viscose, two of the most commonly-used materials in the industry. 

Apart from the sharing and pre-loved market, technology seems to play a major role in moving fashion towards a more sustainable future, for it presents new design ideas and materials such as Algalife, a natural fibre made from algae; Resortecs, a new type of thread that dissolves at a high temperature (making it easier to take garments apart and recycle them); and Nature Coatings, a black dye made from wood waste (a natural alternative to traditional, petroleum-based black pigments).
